Delhi Capitals will face off against Rajasthan Royals in the 36th match of the Indian Premier League. Both sides are keen to finish in the top four and qualify for the playoffs of IPL 2021. The two sides have done fairly well so far. However, they need to perform in the business end of the season now.
Delhi Capitals have been dominating the points table since the very start of IPL 2021. They have dropped only two games and look like one of the best balanced teams in the league currently playing brilliant live cricket. They come to the game with an eight wicket win over a weary Sunrisers Hyderabad. Their bowling in Kagiso Rabada, who picked three wickets, and Anrich Nortje, who picked two, looks in safe hands. Axar Patel was the only spinner amongst the wickets.
They did not play Steve Smith against Hyderabad. Instead, his fellow national teammate Marcus Stoinis was in the playing 11. Ravichandran Ashwin got a chance and Delhi are expected to field the same side.
Delhi Capitals squad: Prithvi Shaw, Shikhar Dhawan, Ajinkya Rahane, Rishabh Pant (c & wk), Sam Billings, Shimron Hetmyer, Steven Smith, Vishnu Vinod, Axar Patel, Chris Woakes, Lalit Yadav, Marcus Stoinis, Ripal Patel, Tom Curran, Amit Mishra, Anrich Nortje, Avesh Khan, Ishant Sharma, Kagiso Rabada, Lukman Meriwala, Manimaran Siddharth, Praveen Dubey, Umesh Yadav, Shams Mulani, Aniruddha Joshi
The highlights of the first week of thr IPL was Kartik Tyagi’s last over heroics. The 20-yeat-old managed to defend four runs in in six balls against three world class batsmen. Not only did he give only one run but also picked two wickets, stunning Punjab Kings. Along with Tyagi, Mustafizur Rahman was another Rajasthan pacer who deserved all the praise for his precision and control. However, Chris Morris’ bowling did show rust.
Batting wise, Rajasthan Royals smashed the Punjab bowlers right from the top. Yashasvi Jaiswal and Evin Lewis set a strong platform for the likes of Mahipal Lomror and Liam Livingston to build on. Though, skipper Sanju Samson, Riyan Parag and Rahul Tewatia failed, the team managed to post 185 runs.
RR squad: Yashasvi Jaiswal, Sanju Samson (c), Manan Vohra, David Miller, Anuj Rawat, Chris Morris, Mahipal Lomror, Rahul Tewatia, Riyan Parag, Shivam Dube, Akash Singh, Chetan Sakariya, Jaydev Unadkat, Kartik Tyagi, KC Cariappa, Kuldip Yadav, Mayank Markande, Mustafizur Rahman, Shreyas Gopal, Gerald Coetze, Evin Lewis, Liam Livingston
Rajasthan Royals and Delhi Capitals have faced each other 23 times in the IPL. Delhi have won 11 matches while Rajasthan have won on 12 occasions.
While Delhi Capitals play to cement a spot in the top two, for Rajasthan it is more a about survival. Sanju Samson and company come with a desperate ein and will look to make a statement by defeating one of the strongest teams this season. However, Delhi Capitals still come as favorites.
