Royal Challengers Bangalore will face off against Delhi Capitals in the 56th match of the Indian Premier League. Both teams have ensured their qualification for the playoffs. However, RCB has a chance of finishing in the top-two by displacing CSK, if they win this match. That will enhance their chances of reaching the final of IPL 2021. However, they will have to win by a nearly impossible margin in order to do so.
Royal Challengers Bangalore:
The Royal Challengers Bangalore dented their hopes for a top-two finish with a defeat against the Sunrisers Hyderabad in the last game. While they have secured a playoff berth, the loss highlighted quite a few problems for Virat Kohli and company. For one, AB de Villiers and Virat Kohli’s form. They have both been poor with the cricket bat.
The two have been RCB’s mainstay for years now. However, they’ve failed to light up the UAE leg. While, Kohli has two half centuries to show, the Portea is still finding his feet. On the other hand there is Glenn Maxwell. The Aussie has hit 447 runs in the tournament with five fifties. He is in terrific form and Bangalore will bank on him to finish the season well.
Bowling wise, leg spinner Yuzvendra Chahal has led the way for the Royal Challengers Bangalore. The spinner and Harshal Patel have got the knack of taking wickets at crucial intervals.
Royal Challengers Bangalore Squad: Virat Kohli(c), Devdutt Padikkal, Rajat Patidar, Glenn Maxwell, AB de Villiers(w), Shahbaz Ahmed, Wanindu Hasaranga, Kyle Jamieson, Harshal Patel, Mohammed Siraj, Yuzvendra Chahal, Daniel Christian, Dushmantha Chameera, Sachin Baby, Srikar Bharat, Navdeep Saini, Pavan Deshpande, Mohammed Azharuddeen, George Garton, Suyash Prabhudessai, Tim David, Akash Deep
The Delhi Capitals are ready to finish the IPL round robin at the top. With 20 points already, there is no way any other team is catching up with the 2020 finalists. The Capitals look like one of the most settled sides this season. They come to this game after defeating Mumbai Indians by four wickets and then Chennai Super Kings by three. Their batting line-up in Prithivi Shaw, Shikhar Dhawan, Shreyas Iyer, Rishabh Pant and Shimron Hetmyer looks strong but consistency has been a problem lately. Pant will have to gear up and deliver the finishes he is known for. Shaw has also been hot and cold in the UAE leg.
However, for Delhi their winning combination lies in the bowling unit. South African pace duo Anrich Nortje and Kagiso Rabada have been causing real trouble to the batsmen. Avesh Khan is second on the purple cap list with 22 wickets. Ravichandran Ashwin and Axar Patel have also played their parts well.
Delhi Capitals Squad: Prithvi Shaw, Shikhar Dhawan, Ajinkya Rahane, Rishabh Pant (c & wk), Sam Billings, Shimron Hetmyer, Steven Smith, Vishnu Vinod, Axar Patel, Chris Woakes, Lalit Yadav, Marcus Stoinis, Ripal Patel, Tom Curran, Amit Mishra, Anrich Nortje, Avesh Khan, Ishant Sharma, Kagiso Rabada, Lukman Meriwala, Manimaran Siddharth, Praveen Dubey, Umesh Yadav, Shams Mulani, Aniruddha Joshi
Delhi Capitals and Royal Challengers Bangalore have faced each other 26 times in the IPL. Delhi have won 10 matches while Bangalore have won on 15 occasions.
It’s a tough call. Both the teams have had splendid UAE legs and an IPL 2021 so far. They’re set to finish at the top of the table. However, the team balance suggests Royal Challengers Bangalore winning the game. Kohli and company are expected to enjoy the pace of Nortje and Kagiso Rabada.
