Proteas will clash heads with England in the third T20I on this Tuesday. This game will not really impact the result of the three-match T20 series. England has already won the series and it will just be a mere formality now. Despite that, it could generate a lot of cricket news, to say the least.
Proteas lost the two matches in this series already. Even if their batsmen put up a good score of 179 runs in 20 overs, they couldn’t defend this score. In the second game, they scored even lesser, 146, which was never going to be enough.
Wicketkeeper opening batsman, Quinton de Kock scored 30 runs in both matches but failed to capitalize on this starts Veteran batsman Faf fu Plessis smacked 58 runs off 40 balls in the first but failed on a meager 11 in the second. Young batsman Van der Dussen scored 37 runs comprising three humongous sixes in the first match, while he got another decent 25 in the second. Another opener Temba Bavuma got dismissed on five and 13 runs respectively. He has failed to impress so far.
In the bowling department, George Linde and Lungi Ngidi have looked good so far. The former took a couple of wickets in the first game, while Ngidi has four so far. Tabraiz Shamsi took one wicket in the first, while three in the next.
Speedsters Kagiso Rabada and Beuran Hendricks have been a major disappointment so far, with the latter being dropped for the second match. The Proteas team has many options on the bench. Veteran batsman David Miller is sitting on the bench. Also, speedsters Anrich Nortje (who played the second game) and Junior Dala are other options in the bowling department. With the series already lost, let’s see which players make it to the starting 11.
As England won the first game of the series, they will try to win the second game of the match. English batsman Jonny Bairstow hammered an impressive 86 runs off just 48 balls in the first. He clubbed nine elegant fours and four monumental sixes. Allrounder Ben Stokes scored 37 runs off 27 balls comprising with one four and three sixes and followed it up with a steady 16 runs in the second match. They chased the target of 180 runs in the last over of the game. Even the 147 in the second game was chased down at the very end and they won with one ball remaining.
English speedster Sam Curran bagged three wickets in four overs, though he was wicket-less in the second game. The other pacers Jofra Archer, Tom Curran, and Chris Jordan have taken a few wickets as well.
The problem with Tom Curran in the first game was his economy. He conceded 55 runs in just four overs. England can keep the same eleven as they will not try to change their winning combination. Sam Billing is another good option in the batting department for England. Also, they can play spin-bowling all-rounder Moeen Ali in eleven for this game.
These two teams played each other 18 times where Proteas won nine games while England won the remaining nine games.
England is more likely to win this match as they are looking stronger and more experienced team.
