Sri Lanka will face off against West Indies in the first Test match of their tour of the West Indies. Both teams will want to start off this series on a positive note. Sri Lanka will be keen to play some positive cricket after being beating all ends up. They are yet to pick up a win on this tour so far.
West Indies’ chief selector made the team’s intention very clear when he spoke about retaining the core of the squad. He wants them to play some good live cricket and be the team that amazed the Bangladeshis in Asia. Darren Bravo is the only major change in the squad as the likes of Kyle Mayers and Jomel Warrican retain their spots.
“A number of players seized the opportunity that the tour of Bangladesh presented and booked a place for themselves in the Test team for this series. This now means that there is keen competition for places which should drive better individual performances and that of the team. I also think that these players are looking forward to displaying their skills on home soil,” the Windies chief said.

Kraigg Braithwaite will lead the side in the as Joshua Da Silva is expected to continue the glovework. West Indies have been on a roll since the Bangladesh tour and have simply translated their individual shows into a group succed, especially against Sri Lanka.
West Indies Test squad: Kraigg Brathwaite (captain), Jermaine Blackwood, Nkrumah Bonner, Darren Bravo, John Campbell, Rahkeem Cornwall, Joshua Da Silva (wk), Shannon Gabriel, Jason Holder, Alzarri Joseph, Kyle Mayers, Kemar Roach, Jomel Warrican.
While West Indies welcome Darren Bravo’s experience into the side, the visitors also have some relief as Dimuth Karunaratne has returned to the Sri Lankan Test team. The likes of Lahiru Thirimanne, Dhananjaya de Silva, Roshen Silva, Vishwa Fernando and Lasith Embuldeniya will bolster Sri Lanka’s hopes of ending the tour on a high.
Speaking of form, the Sri Lankan team comes into the red ball series after quite a disappointing limited overs display. The skipper will only hope that the pitch offers something to his star spinners and they can do better than what they did against England a few weeks ago.
Sri Lanka Test squad: Dimuth Karunaratne (c), Dasun Shanaka, Pathum Nissanka, Oshada Fernando, Lahiru Thirimanne, Dinesh Chandimal, Angelo Mathews, Niroshan Dickwella, Roshen Silva, Dhananjaya de Silva, Wanindu Hasaranga, Ramesh Mendis, Vishwa Fernando, Suranga Lakmal, Asitha Fernando, Dushmantha Chameera, Lasith Embuldeniya.
Sri Lanka and West Indies have faced each other 20 times in Test matches. Sri Lanka have won 9 matches, Windies have won on 4 occassions and 7 games have ended in draws.
Kemar Roach, Jason Holder, Shanon Gabriel and Alzarri Joseph together on Windies soil might mean a heavy load of pace coming Sri Lanka’s way. Their batsmen, namely Kyle Mayers, Kriag Braithwaite and now even Darren Bravo have been in great form, giving the hosts an edge. Sri Lanka would want Herath and Embuldeniya to make life difficult for West Indies’ hard hitting nature.
