21-Month Imprisonment Filed over Messi

The Spanish court made their decision of a 21-months imprisonment against Lionel Messi after his tax fraud case.

The Barcelona star recently faced a case over tax evasion of not paying €5m way back in 2013. The sad fact is that the footballer’s father is also involved in the anomaly. They are found guilty, in accordance to the law Messi will pay €2m euros while his father Jorge was charged of €1.5m for defrauding Spain in 2007-2009.

Other than that, the two were also fined for using tax haven in Belize and Uruguay.

During the trial, the Argentine player said that he knows nothing.

2016 was full of devastation and unwanted events as he recently declared that he will retire from the international scene after their tragic loss against Chile.

The 29-year old player together with his father and lawyer had already filed their appeal. His lawyer is confident enough that their sentence will be corrected. The sentence can be requested to the Spanish Supreme Court.

They have already made a voluntary corrective payment similar to the amount of money that is involved in the issue just to void the decision.

Messi was included in the Forbes magazine’s list of the highest-earning athletes in the world as he earned almost €36m per year.

Meanwhile, FC Barcelona expressed their full support to their star player. They believe that he is innocent with the said issue.
