New Zealand announced ICC 2019 15-Man World Cup Squad

New Zealand wasted no time as they named their 15-man squad for this year’s ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup in England and Wales.

The lucky players that were chosen are Kane Williamson (captain), Martin Guptill, Henry Nicholls, Ross Taylor, Tom Latham, Colin Munro, Tom Blundell, Colin de Grandhomme, Mitchell Santner, Jimmy Neesham, Ish Sodhi, Matt Henry, Lockie Ferguson, Tim Southee, and Trent Boult.

Going back, the ICC has set the deadline to April 30, 2019 for every team to announce their final squads but the Black Caps publicized it ahead of the cutoff date, which makes them the first team to share their team players who will compete for the big tournament.

Meanwhile, New Zealand coach Gary Stead addressed that it was a tough calls as he is looking for the perfect combination ahead of the said event.

“As with any squad named for a major tournament, there’s had to be some tough calls and there will be some disappointed players. The key for us was finding the right balance for the squad and making sure we had our bases covered for what is going to be a very competitive World Cup.” Stead stated

He also added that: “The World Cup is the pinnacle of cricket, and to be the first nation to name a squad for the tournament is really exciting. I’d like to congratulate all the players selected. To represent your country at a World Cup is a huge honour, and I know the entire squad and support staffs are looking forward to the challenges ahead.”

Moreover, the team will have three training camps that will take place in Lincoln this coming April 15-16, April 23-24, and April 30 – May 1. After that, New Zealand XI squad will go to Australia for three unofficial one-dayers in early May.

Moving forward, the Black Caps will open their campaign over Sri Lanka in Cardiff on June 1 as the tournament begins on May 30 to July 14, 2019.
