Pakistan will be playing for pride in the fourth ODI against England at Headingly, Leeds, tomorrow. They lost the third ODI at Trent Bridge by a whopping margin of 169 runs. England batted first for the first time in the series and amassed 444 runs in 50 over, with Alex Hales scoring a blistering 171. Pakistan somehow managed 275. All the Cricket betting odds must now favour England for a whitewash of the series. Pakistan will strive hard to avoid that. All depends on how they respond to the massive defeat.
Pakistan – Preview
Pakistani players were jubilant after the 2-2 draw in the test series. A new-look, much younger team arrived for the ODIs. But they were outclassed in all the departments by a turbo-charged English side. Perhaps the departure of veterans Misbah-ul-Haq and Younis Khan dented the team’s confidence.
Now it is up to the younger brigade to show that they belong to the highest level. None of the Pakistan bowlers managed to trouble the English batsmen in this series. In the third ODI, the worst affected was Wahab Riaz, who was supposed to be the impact bowler of the team. He went for 110 runs in his 10 overs. The others were not that bad; but they were no good either. The only positive for Pakistan from the match is the good form of Sharjeel Khan. He blasted 58 from 30 balls before running out of luck.
England – Preview
England have the opponent on the mat. All they have to do is to put their feet on the opponent’s throat. However, they have a long-standing tendency of becoming complacent once they are in a dominant position. The defeat in the final test match against Pakistan is the most recent example of the complacency. They have to guard against the lack of motivation resulting from the early series win. If they play up to their potential, England must stroll to a win.
All betting odds point to an England win. It is hard to see Pakistan winning from this position – unless England become too complacent.
