England vs Australia 1st ODI: Match Preview, Team News, Details, Predicted Lineups & Prediction

0

England are in great shape this summer after winning against West Indies, Ireland and Pakistan. The Three Lions have also won the T20I series against Australia. With some huge wins to their name, they are now gearing up for the One Day series. The first match will take place at Old Trafford and both the teams will be looking for a positive start.

The English side have been playing some really good Cricket. They will be hoping to continue that form in the upcoming series as well.

England

The hosts have been dominant this summer but they suffered a surprise defeat against Ireland after beating them in the previous two ODIs. Eoin Morgan and company will look to improve on several aspects and that defeat against Ireland will be on the back of their minds.

Jason Roy has returned to the squad while No.1 ranked batsman in T20 Internationals Dawid Malan has been named in the reserves.

Expected Lineup: Jason Roy, Jonny Bairstow, Joe Root, Eoin Morgan (c), Jos Buttler (wk), Moeen Ali, Chris Woakes, Sam Curran, Jofra Archer, Adil Rashid, Mark Wood.

Australia

This will be the first ODI played by the Aussies in six months, as they last played against New Zealand at the Sydney Cricket Ground which they won. However, before that, they lost consecutive ODI series against India (2-1) and South Africa who whitewashed them 3-0. So, they need to pull up their socks as they are facing the reigning World Champions and it will be a very interesting match for Aaron Finch and his men.

Australia are likely to stick to their squad that defeated New Zealand six months ago in Sydney. However, Glenn Maxwell may feature in place of D’Arcy Short.

Expected Lineup: David Warner, Aaron Finch (c), Steve Smith, Glenn Maxwell, Marnus Labuschagne, Mitchell Marsh, Alex Carey (wk), Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc, Kane Richardson, Adam Zampa, Josh Hazlewood.

Match Prediction

It will be a tough test for the Aussies against the reigning World Champions England at their own backyard. However, cricket is a very unpredictable game and anything can happen on the day. But still, England will start this match as favourites.
