With Arsenal’s offer likely to be taken by Alexandre Lacazette, the France striker would become London club’s most expensive signing at £44m.
Prior to this, Lyon has rejected £29m bid from Arsenal last July, while West Ham also attempted to sign the player with a club-record of £43m but have been declined too.
Things took a turn this year as Ligue 1 president Jean-Michel Aulas disclosed that the striker can leave this summer for £44m—the amount of bid that the Gunners can stretch up to.
Lacazette has previously verbally agreed to make a move to Atletico Madrid in May. But the course failed to push through as Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) imposed transfer ban against the club for breaching FA rules.
Ironically, the highly-rated footballer also said he will only move to a club who are qualified in the next season’s Champions League, which is far from what Arsene Wenger can offer after dropping out of Premier League’s top four last season.
Despite this, Arsenal remains confident in signing the player in time for the coming term.
The 26-year-old has 119 goals in over 200 appearances for Lyon.
