Arsenal surprised the Premier League champs by showing unyielding performance at the Stamford Bridge during the London Derby’s 0-0 match draw on Sunday.
Arsene Wenger’s men were solid and disciplined which proved to be a huge improvement considering the unstable form they have since the start of the season.
The two sides entered the battle with an identical 3-4-3 lineup. This formation combined with the Gunners’ heavy pressing meant that every player is bound to have a direct opponent.
Danny Welbeck was guarding Cesar Azpilicueta; Alexandre Lacazette was restraining David Luiz; Alex Iwobi was watching out Gary Cahill; and the rest of the players have their respective opponent to keep an eye out on.
Wenger’s squad, despite being unable to score were able to dominate the Blues and forced manager Antonio Conte into making a half-time change in hopes to toughen his squad. But still, it didn’t work for the hosts in terms of ball possession.
“With more freedom and less inhibition we could have won this game with one or two goal difference,” said Wenger after the game. “But it was important not to lose today and you could see that, in the last 20 minutes, we played with that in our mind.” Arsene Wenger expressed after their tactical battle against the Premier League giants, Chelsea.
Meanwhile, Arsenal are expected to host Doncaster on Wednesday night for the Carabao Cup which will be followed by a match against West Brom on the 25th(check out the most best betting odds of the coming duel).
