Callum Paterson’s 31st minute goal against Barnsley in the Championship has given his side a strong advantage against the lowly visitors.
The home side appeared to be in total control after Marko Grujic delivered a fine 20-yard strike few minutes after the half time. This lifted Cardiff to a 2-0 lead.
However, Barnsley pressed for goal which materialized through Oli McBurnie— an on loan from Swansea City. He reduced the goal deficit with a successful quick fire in the 60th minute.
At the final whistle, the visitors failed to collect more points and were simply forced to settle in a 2-0 defeat (get the best betting odds for bigger winning chances).
Currently, Barnsley are in the 21st spot of the Championship table, two points above the relegation zone, while second-placed Cardiff continue to breathe down the necks of the division’s pace-setters.
Cardif City boss Neil Warnock said: “I said the last 20 minutes would define our season because they had their tails up and we were all at sea.
“I have a great bunch of lads. I can’t fault the effort. But people can’t ever accuse our team of being physical after what we have seen.
“I was more disappointed at some of the things (that were) allowed to happen but it’s another three points and we move on. It’s a disgrace, how Kieffer Moore has not been sent off for two challenges I do not know. So, I’m extra pleased that we have stood up to that.
“We missed some easy chances that my wife could have put in.”
Cardiff City are expected to host Birmingham on Saturday in their home soil; while Barnsley will travel to Middlesbrough on the same day for Championship clash (Sign Up to get the comprehensive match preview and result).
