FC Barcelona have confirmed that the Uruguay striker Luis Suarez will not play for a month due to the knee injury that he suffered from the second leg defeat of the Spanish Super Cup to Real Madrid.
According to the statement of the club on their website, medical test has revealed that the Barcelona forward’s right knee has damage.
“Luis Suarez will be out of action for around four weeks. Tests carried out on Thursday confirmed that the Uruguayan has a distension in the posterior articular capsule in his right knee picked up in the second half of Wednesday’s Clasico at the Santiago Bernabeu.” Barca said in a statement
The Blaugrana club added that the 30-year-old striker will also miss league matches against Betis, Alaves, Espanyol and possibly the trip to Gatafe in early September.
The Uruguayan Football Association has ruled out Suarez of his country’s important World Cup qualifiers over Argentina and Paraguay on August 31 and September 5.
Meanwhile, the club announced that defender Gerard Pique has an adductor muscle injury and could also miss the game against Real Betis.
“The tests carried out on Gerard Piqué confirm that the defender has a groin strain in his left leg and his recovery will decide his availability for the game against Betis.” Barcelona added
