England star striker Harry Kane has suffered an ankle injury in Tottenham Hotspur’s 4-1 road win against Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium.
Kane appeared to twist his ankle in the 34th minute of action over a challenge by Bournemouth goalkeeper Asmir Begovic where he converted the goal but it was disallowed due to offside.
The 24-year-old star received a treatment in the first half and hobbled out of the game straight to the dugout after he was replaced by Erik Lamela.
Moving forward, Kane, who left Bournemouth on crunches and in a protective boot, will be evaluated to know the extent of the damage.
However, Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino is worried by Kane’s injury because it was the same ankle that he hurt last season.
Going back, Kane suffered two ankle injuries in September 2016 and March 2017 against Sunderland and Millwall in the FA Cup that resulted for him to miss 14 matches.
“We need to wait until tomorrow. After tomorrow he will have a scan on his ankle. Of course he suffered an injury that is in the same ankle as he suffered before. But I hope and we hope it’s not a massive issue. It was between him and the doctor. Always the decision is between him and the doctor. He felt that when he landed and twisted his ankle it was impossible to stay on the pitch. He is positive. Harry has a great character and is always positive. He’s happy with the victory for the team, disappointed of course with his problem. But now if you are positive then you start the recovery from the injury now.” Pochettino stated
As of now, Kane has 35 goals this season and is tied on 24 goals with Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah in the race for the Premier League Golden Boot.
Meanwhile, Danny Rose and Dele Alli also departed late with fatigue and groin injury in the important win over the Cherries but according to Mauricio, “I don’t think it will be a big problem.”
Up next, they are scheduled to travel for their FA Cup quarterfinal against Swansea on Saturday, March 17, 2018 at 8:15 PM (GMT +8).
