Liverpool blew a three-goal lead in a thrilling 3-3 draw against Sevilla in the Champions League match at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan Stadium.
In the opening 30 minutes of the game, Jurgen Klopp’s men erupted to three goals which came from Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane as Liverpool looks to secure a place and qualify for the knockout stages for the first time.
Firmino scored twice for Liverpool. The first goal came in the second minute then was followed by Mane in the 22nd minute and Roberto scored again in the 30th minute.
However, Sevilla produced a stunning comeback in the second half. Wissam Ben Yedder pulled two goals where the second one came from the penalty spot after the foul from Alberto Moreno.
Guido Pizarro completed the dramatic draw when he converted his deep goal in the injury time to protect Sevilla’s unbeaten run at home.
“It feels like we lost the game. The description of the game is easy. Fantastic first half for us, the second half we made a mistake – we didn’t carry on playing football. It’s normal to try to control the game but a team like us has to control the game with the ball. We didn’t play football any more. We became passive, they scored the first, and then it was obvious the atmosphere changed immediately. That gave them a big boost. Until the second goal we were reactive. After the second goal it was an open game again but we couldn’t score off the counterattacks. We opened the door for them, didn’t close it, so they could score in the last minute. That’s the story of the game.” Klopp expressed
Moving forward, Liverpool still remain top of Group E with nine points, one point clear over Sevilla and three points ahead against Spartak Moscow.
Both teams has still one more game left in the league and the Reds will host Spartak Moscow at Anfield on December 7, Thursday (GMT +8) while Sevilla will travel to Maribor on the same day in their final game of the group.
