Tokyo Verdy spokesman Yuya Kurabayashi has confirmed that they want to sign A.S Roma legend Francesco Totti for the Japanese club.
“There has been interest from Totti’s side. The club is looking at ways to raise the money needed to sign the player. It will be difficult, but we are exploring options to get the deal done.” Kurabayashi stated
According to the reports, Verdy president Hideaki Hanyu also confirmed and said that Totti wants a deal worth €3 million to the J-League second division side but the club did not disclose details of the offer they made.
“We are interested and have contacted him. But there has been no progress as he wants £50,000-a-week. Having him here would be a dream.” Hanyu said.
Totti debuted in 1993 as 16-year-old and finished a remarkable 25-season with his hometown club. In addition, he led the team to a Serie A title, two Coppa Italia crowns and two Italian Super Cups in 786 record matches for the clubs which he scored a total of 307 goals.
The 40-year-old veteran has also been linked with Major League Soccer side Miami FC, coached by his friend Alessandro Nesta.
It is still unclear where his next destination will be, with retirement still an option.
