Wayne Rooney was greeted with the loudest ovation as he made his first return appearance for Everton on Thursday after completing a transfer deal with the club.
“It’s obviously great to be at Goodison wearing the blue shirt, it was a great feeling,” England captain said and furthered, “but it was an important game for us so I had to put my emotions to one side. I’ve done that now and can get down to focusing more on the football.”
The campaign didn’t come easy for the 31-year-old player. He kicked off the new season having had three chances to open scoring in a dull and sluggish face off against oppositions.
But the odds seemed to be not in favor of the forward player, making him miss several opportunities.
Rooney’s frustration was evident and yet managed to compose himself as Everton capped off the game in slender victory.
