Fifth seeded Jo-Wilfried Tsonga suffered a defeat against ranked 26th Gilles Muller in the second round of Aegon Championships.
Tsonga, who has won titles in Lyon, Marseille and Rotterdam in 2017, was beaten and outplayed from start to finish in straight sets by Luxembourg’s Muller 6-4, 6-4 at Queen’s Club.
Muller finished the match in just an hour and nine minutes to hand Tsonga another disappointing loss after his first round exit at the French Open over Renzo Olivio.
The 32-year-old Frenchman became the latest high-profile star to join world No. 1 Andy Murray, French Open runner up and three-time Grand Slam champion Stan Wawrinka and 2016 Wimbledon finalist Milos Raonic who had shock defeats in the first round of the tournament.
Luxembourgish tennis player is now through to the quarter-finals for the third straight year and now on a six match winning run on grass court including the title he won in s-Hertogenbosch last week in Netherlands.
Muller will play former Queen’s champion Sam Querrey or Jordan Thompson of Australia for a place in the last four.
Meanwhile, there are still big players remaining in the draw at the London tournament which are fourth seeded Marin Cilic of Croatia, sixth seeded Bulgarian Grigor Dimitrov and seventh seeded Czech Tomas Berdych.
