The fifth and final test of the ongoing Ashes series will begin tomorrow at Sydney Cricket Ground. Australia have won the series, while England earned some respect with a draw in the fourth test. England will be keen to end the series with a win. Australia, on the other hand, will be keen to make this an emphatic 4-0 series win.
The pitch at the SCG is friendlier to the batsmen than some of the other pitches in Australia. But England, who did not have to face Mitchell Starc in the fourth test, will have to negotiate a fit-again Starc in the final test. His presence will tilt the balance in Australia’s favor in cricket betting. But England too will fight hard for damage limitation.
Preview – Australia
Starc’s absence was very much felt in the fourth test, where his replacement Jackson Bird appeared toothless. Overall, Australian bowlers were a collective failure against the dogged determination of Alastair Cook. Had Starc been around, he would have found a way. Anyways, Starc has been declared fit for the match. So, Australia will once again field a full-strength eleven. That will make them firm favorites to win this match for cricket betting calculations.
Preview – England
When the dust is settled, England will realize that three things cost them the Ashes:
- Lack of experienced top-order batsmen.
- Joe Root’s failure to take charge of the situations with the bat.
- The bowlers’ inability to get Steve Smith out.
If England can take care of these three things, they can even fancy a consolation win. If you look at the stats, top order batting of both the teams look almost the same, if you remove Smith’s data from Australia’s stats. However, England may not be able to reverse the trend now. Plus, Chris Woakes will miss the action due to an injury.
Prediction for cricket betting: Australia will win the test to make it 4-0.
