Indian captain Virat Kohli made an important decision in the fifth and final T20 of the series against England. He came out to open the batting along with Rohit Sharma. This decision created magic for Team India, as the two best players in the team wreaked havoc on the England bowlers. They played some great live cricket and provided a magical start for the team batting first. As a result, India won the match and the series.
What Virat Kohli Said After The Last Match Of The India Versus England Series?
Virat played a splendid knock while opening the innings for Team India, making it a great cricket match. This sparked off a debate among the cricket analysts and fans on whether Virat Kohli should open the innings for Team India or bat at his normal position at number 3. On this question, the Indian skipper stated that he enjoyed batting with Rohit Sharma and it was a strategic move.
He got things right for once, after a lot of criticism coming from a section of the fans. Even some of the Pundits have been on his back and have been trying to make a point. Those critics were silenced by the way that he and Rohit Sharma played.
“Firstly, the combination that plays on the field, the selectors do not have any role in that. It is similar to the way that the management does not have any role in who gets selected. Secondly, as Rohit mentioned it was a strategic move. However, we did enjoy batting together, even though it was just in the last T20I.”
“We did enjoy that partnership that we had. We could see the effects of us batting together and knowing what we can do to the opposition if we bat throughout. It is not a guarantee that it is going to be continued in the future.”
Virat Kohli Will Open The Batting For RCB In IPL 2021 To Keep All The Options Open
The Indian skipper also went on to say that he will be opening in the upcoming IPL to keep all the options open in the ICC World T20 and bat at any position the team needs him to. Suryakumar Yadav batted spectacularly in his debut series at number 3 and hence Kohli has no problems in giving his number 3 position to him if he continues to bat in this fashion.
“I am going to open in the IPL to keep all options open. I have batted at three, four and now I need to understand my role as an opener which I have done successfully in the past in T20 cricket so that I provide an option to open up a slot for someone like Surya, if he can continue to bat like that, I should be open to playing any kind of role that the team requires me to.
“We will have a conversation about this when we get closer to the T20 World Cup. It would be interesting to see how I go about my job as an opener in the IPL.”
