A total of 2000 athletes from 200 different countries will aim for glory at the event that will conclude on August 13. There will be 24 track and field events (15 track events and 9 field events) in men’s and women’s sections. There will be plenty of opportunities for online betting. Here are the highlights.

The Final Bolt

Jamaican sprint star Usain Bolt and the British distance legend Mo Farah, who have 28 world and Olympic titles between them, will look forward to hang up their boots after the event. The chances are it will be a suitably triumphant finale for Bolt, who heads into the individual 100m and 4x100m relay. This will be the last opportunity for online betting on Usain Bolt, and the bettors would be hopeful of utilizing it.

Farah’s Swansong

Meanwhile, Farah, who aims for a hat-trick double in the 5000/10,000m races, will be the biggest medal hope for Britain among others. A number of Olympic champions will be returning to London where they sealed gold five years ago, at the 2012 Olympics.

Indian Challenge

For India, 25 athletes are taking part in the prestigious event, and are not expected to make much of an impact, barring a slim chance of a medal from world junior record holder javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra. For a country which has taken part in every championships since the first one in 1983, legendary long jumper Anju Bobby George’s bronze in Paris 2003 has been the only medal at the championships.

Other Star Attractions

There are others too. Wayde van Niekerk, the 25-year-old South African, who is the only sprinter ever to post sub-10 seconds, sub-20 seconds and sub-44 seconds in the 100m, 200m and 400m, respectively, is aiming his first international 200m/400m double. Indian Challenge
