Australia will face Sri Lanka in their second group stage game at Dubai International Stadium on Thursday. This match is crucial for both sides after winning their first match in the group stage respectively. Both of them will be looking to get a victory in this contest to have an edge towards the road to the semi-final. They will have to play some good cricket in the upcoming fixture.
Australia have been victorious against South Africa in the first match of the tournament. It has certainly been a close contest; but the win against a formidable bowling attack of South Africa will certainly give Australia a real chance to move further in this tournament. England are looking like the hot favourites to go as the top side from Group A. However, all the other teams will be trying their best to get the second position in this group by playing some good live cricket. West Indies are currently going through a poor run of form. They have lost both their matches in the group stage so far.
On the other hand, South Africa have won one and lost another. So, a win against Sri Lanka will certainly give Australia a boost up in the points table. The pace attack of Australia consisting of Mitchell Starc, Pat Cummins and Josh Hazlewood is looking lethal. The only concern might be the form of David Warner and Aaron Finch. Steve Smith is playing the role of an anchor in this side. Glenn Maxwell and Mitchell Marsh are two proper all-rounders. Australia have not used the bowling of their two all-rounders yet in this tournament. They might not use much spin against Sri Lanka as the Bangladeshi spinners have been whacked by Sri Lankan batters.
Sri Lanka have beaten Bangladesh in the first match of the group stage quite convincingly. The young batters like Charith Asalanka and Bhanuka Rajapaksa have set the tone for this side in the rest of the tournament. The mystery spinners of Sri Lanka will certainly keep Australian batsmen under a lot of pressure. Sri Lanka team management will hope that their experienced opening batsman Kushal Perera will fire against Australia. On the other hand, Dushmantha Chameera and Lahiru Kumara will look to rattle the top order of Australia which is currently lacking confidence.
Australia and Sri Lanka have faced each other in 16 T20I’s. Both of them have won 8 each.
Australia are currently the favourites to win this contest. However, this young Sri Lanka side is capable of producing miracles on their own day.
