The Delhi Capitals will be hoping to carry the momentum they generated after their victory in their last match, which put back the wind in their sails. The Royals, on the other hand, will look to further consolidate their place and go for the kill as both these sides prepare themselves to face each other in a rather high-stakes encounter between the two. Both teams will want to do better than they did in IPL 2021.
The match also brings R Ashwin facing off against his previous employers, and that will also be an interesting sub-plot in this fixture. Both teams will definitely be needing the win as the IPL approaches the halfway point. This should be a great IPL match between two teams who want to make it to the playoffs this year.
Against all odds, the Capitals are still alive. After a COVID scare in the camp that almost threatened to derail an already mediocre season, the Capitals roared back in style, and absolutely smacked the daylights out of the hapless Punjab Kings. Their bowling unit fired as a proper pack, hunting in pairs and breaking the back of the much-vaunted Punjab batting, while the batters got the job done in minimal time without much fuss.
This is the performance that the Capitals were so desperate to produce throughout the spare of losses that they suffered. With a performance now displayed, the Capitals will sure hope to perform like this in every single game. With the business end approaching soon, the Caps are right back in this.
The Royals had the battle of their lives in the last game, with the Knights just one hit away from victory, but they walked away with the victory thanks to a simply outstanding last over by Yuzi Chahal. The leggie took his first-ever hat-trick in IPL, bamboozling all the batsmen with his sheer line, and a bag of variations. Before that, it was the Jos show as the Englishman once again took the bowling to the cleaners, notching up another century and looking the hot favorite to win the orange cap.
The bowling, while did got taken apart, displayed tremendous calmness after debutant Obed McCoy bowled a brilliant last over to seal the victory. The Royals will definitely fancy their chances in this game and will hope for their key players to fire once again.
There is absolutely nothing to separate these two teams as far as the Head-to-Head is concerned, with both having registered 12 wins each when they have played against each other. However, Delhi has the rubber over the Royals in the last 5 fixtures, winning 4 and losing 1.
Even though they were undermanned, the Capitals absolutely thrashed the Kings on their way to victory, so there is not much to separate both sides, but the Riyals will be slight favorites due to the balance of their squad.
