A relieved Chennai Super Kings will take on the formidable-looking Gujarat Titans which will see the Gujarat-based franchise looking to consolidate on their top spot, after playing some great cricket so far. On the other hand, the defending champions will look to build upon the positive performance that they displayed in that game and will want to continue more of the same in this game, which is a sort of must-win for the yellow brigade.
Gujarat will also have to guard against complacency and play the cricket that they have been playing all this while to ensure no more hiccups because the last thing you want to go ahead and do is give the Super Kings a sniff. The IPL newcomers have been doing really well with the cricket bat and will want to continue to do so.
The Titans are cantering on their merry way and their latest adventure sees them sitting pretty on the top of the table. They are really looking the part after early-season doubts were cast on the team balance and it being too top-heavy, but all those doubts have been resoundingly squashed away, and the Titans are moving from strength to strength. The biggest story is the resurgence of Hardik Pandya as a genuine all-rounder threat. After dreaded 2021, Hardik Pandya is determined to make up for lost time and is not taking any prisoners, with him finally finding his touch with both bat and ball, as well as his astute captaincy so far. If he continues the same way, the team can easily go ahead and book their place in the playoffs.
Chennai Super Kings
The defending champs will be breathing a sigh of relief after finally opening their account and registering their first win of the tournament. They ticked all the boxes in their victory against the Royal Challengers, with their batting firing on all cylinders, and most of their bowlers able to put on the brakes on the RCB scoring at key intervals, leaving them with too much to do at the end. However, this is just the start. They will have to keep winning with no margin for error at all, because of the poor start that they have. But CSK has been known for pulling off similar great escapes in the past, and you can’t just write them off.
This is the first time that these two sides will face off in the IPL.
While CSK has been known to pull off escapes in the past, getting past the Titans is too much of an ask even for the Super Kings. Titans are the overwhelming favorites to win this one.
