India will face off against Namibia in the 42nd Super12 match of the T20 World Cup. It will be the final match of this stage, with the semis and final to follow. However, the Indian side failed to qualify for the next round and will be going back home after this one. With that being said, they will want to play some good live cricket and end their tournament on a high note.
For the first time in nine years, the Men in Blue have failed to qualify for the semi-finals of the T20 World Cup. They suffered two heavy defeats at the start of their campaign and that cost them dearly. Even two emphatic wins could not do it for Virat Kohli and company. India’s hopes lay on Afghanistan winning against New Zealand on Sunday, but that did not happen. This should ideally be a one sided cricket match but nothing is certain in the game of cricket.
Now, with nothing to really win or lose, Team India will take on Namibia. They might look for a team from the bench this time. The openers – KL Rahul and Rohit Sharma – have been doing well at the top. Rishabh Pant has found good touch. However, it might be fair if Kohli chooses to drop some players to get in the youngsters.
India Squad: Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul, Virat Kohli(c), Suryakumar Yadav, Ishan Kishan, Hardik Pandya, Rishabh Pant(w), Rahul Chahar, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Shardul Thakur, Jasprit Bumrah, Ravichandran Ashwin, Mohammed Shami, Varun Chakaravarthy, Ravindra Jadeja
Namibia also has nothing to lose anymore. They lost three games in a trot after winning their campaign opener against Scotland. However, to end their T20 World Cup on a high, they will have to battle Virat Kohli’s India.
They have decent depth in the batting line-up but need the top order to step up and build partnerships to stand a chance in the game. Jan Frylinck had missed the side’s game against New Zealand due to dehydration. He should be fit and ready to return.
Namibia Squad: Stephan Baard, Michael van Lingen, Gerhard Erasmus(c), Zane Green(w), David Wiese, JJ Smit, Jan Nicol Loftie-Eaton, Craig Williams, Ruben Trumpelmann, Karl Birkenstock, Bernard Scholtz, Pikky Ya France, Jan Frylinck, Michau du Preez, Ben Shikongo
This will be the first time that Team India and Namibia will be meeting at an international tournament like the T20 World Cup. India are surely the favourites to win it and go 1-up in this head-to-head contest.
India stand as clear favourites for the game. With the top order firing and spinners playing a big role in the last two games, Virat Kohli and company should win the game, end their World Cup on a high.
