India will lock their horns against New Zealand on Sunday. Both teams have lost their opening match against Pakistan. So, this match is going to be a do or die contest for both sides. The other three teams in this group might not be capable enough to produce any miracle. That’s why it might just be a virtual knockout between these two sides. They will want to play some good cricket in this fixture.
India were outclassed by Pakistan in their first match of the tournament. The weakness of the Indian top order against left arm fast bowlers has been exposed by Pakistan. After losing the first three wickets in the powerplay, India have never been able to make any comeback in the match. Skipper Virat Kohli tried hard to give India a chance to fight with the ball. However, the opposition was just too good and played better live cricket in the opening fixture.
However, Indian bowlers have not been able to take a single wicket in that match. Indian team management will now have to think about many issues. Hardik Pandya’s place in this side is under threat after his performance in the first match. Ishan Kishan, Shardul Thakur and Ravichandran Ashwin are in contention to get into the first XI against New Zealand on Sunday.
New Zealand have also been beaten by Pakistan in their first match of the tournament. However, New Zealand took control of the game at a certain point of time. Asif Khan and Shoaib Malik’s partnership at the back end of the innings have secured the victory of Pakistan in that match. New Zealand are missing Lockie Ferguson badly in this tournament. Martin Guptill is also uncertain to play against India as he has picked up a knock against Pakistan. So, at this moment, Kane Williamson’s side is struggling a bit and they will try hard to beat India to stay alive in the tournament.
Australia and Sri Lanka have faced each other in 16 T20I’s. New Zealand have won 8 matches; while India have won on 6 occasions and 2 matches have been tied.
India are currently the favourites to win this contest. Their performance in the first match has not been up to the mark. However, this squad has the capability to bounce back at the right time. New Zealand are a really strong team in T20 Internationals. So, it will certainly be a tough contest for India on Sunday.
