KKR will be looking to put things right, whereas Punjab Kings will be eager to continue performing the way they did in their first game as both teams square off against each tomorrow. The Knights are coming off the back of a close defeat against the Royal challengers, while the Kings are on the heels of a rather comfortable victory against the same outfit. Both teams have played some good cricket but will want more results to go their way.
What happens in this encounter could as well set the tone for a spicy encounter and serve as a prelude to the entire tournament. It could be a great momentum builder, with some brilliant live cricket on display in this match.
Kolkata Knight Riders
The Knights will be disappointed after that loss against Bangalore, where their batting failed to deliver on the promise of the opening game, with many of the batsmen culpable of some poor selection of shots. While the bowling, on the whole, was very efficient, they clearly miss the services of Pat Cummins, and that was evident yesterday. They also have the additional problem of Andre Russell’s fitness, with a suspected shoulder injury. The Knights will hope to perform better with the bat and ensure that they don’t give away wickets cheaply.
The Kings are roaring with confidence after rolling over Bangalore, making mincemeat of a formidable total of 205. The likes of Bhanuka Rajapaksa, Odean Smith, and the innings by Dhawan gave them a platform to unleash their power hitters. The bowling was a bit suspect, with a majority of them bowling all over the place, but the arrival of Kagiso Rabada on that front will definitely bolster the attack and add a whole new dimension to it. The imminent arrival of Jonny Bairstow will only add to the firepower of this side, making them a much more formidable prospect.
In the 29 matches that they have played against each other, The Knights have a comfortable advantage over the Kings, winning 19 of the 29 games.
While KKR did lose their last game, it is worth noting that they had ticked the majority of the boxes and were just one moment of indecision away from victory. With Punjab also in good form, would expect Kolkata to continue their dominance over Punjab and extend their dominance over them.
