Punjab Kings will face off against Chennai Super Kings in the 53rd match of the Indian Premier League. The team from Punjab needs to win to ensure that they are still in the race for a playoff spot. On the other hand, CSK is already through and need to win to ensure a top-two finish. As the IPL 2021 tournament draws to a close, this will be the final game for both sides.
The Punjab Kings are more or less out of the race to the playoffs for all practical reasons. For them to get in, Mumbai Indians will have to lose against Sunrisers Hyderabad and Kolkata lose versus Rajasthan and that too by a big margin. That being said, Punjab will have to defeat Chennai Super Kings by quite a margin. Hence, getting into the playoff stage is a distant dream for KL Rahul and company. They will still want to play a good IPL match.
The Punjab Kings come to the match after suffering a six run defeat against the Royal Challengers Bangalore. While KL Rahul and Mayank Agarwal are some of the league’s top scorers, the individual shows have not translated into a team performance. Same goes with Mohammed Shami’s bowling efforts.

Chennai Super Kings:
After being on a roll in the UAE leg this year, MS Dhoni’s Chennai Super Kings suffered a defeat in the hands of the Rajasthan Royals. They then lost to the Delhi Capitals. Now MS Dhoni and company will need to figure out a way to avoid a hat-trick of losses.
Opener Ruturaj Gaikwad has been in great form. He did score a brilliant century and Ravindra Jadeja gave the team a late flourish to take the total to 189 against Rajasthan Royals. Against Delhi, it was Ambati Raydu who notched a half century. Bowling wise Shardul Thakur and Ravindra Jadeja picked two wickets each, Dwayne Bravo getting one.
Chennai Super Kings squad: Faf du Plessis, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Ambati Rayudu, Suresh Raina, Robin Uthappa, N Jagadeesan, MS Dhoni (c), Cheteshwar Pujara, Hari Nishanth, Dwayne Bravo, Bhagath Varma, Krishnappa Gowtham, Mitchell Santner, Moeen Ali, Ravindra Jadeja, Sam Curran, Deepak Chahar, Harishankar Reddy, Imran Tahir, Karn Sharma, KM Asif, Lungi Ngidi, Ravisrinivasan Sai Kishore, Shardul Thakur, Jason Behrendorff
Chennai Super Kings and Punjab Kings have faced each other 24 times in the IPL. Chennai have won 15 matches while Punjab have won on 09 occasions.
On one side Chennai, at the top of the table, will want to finish in the top two rungs of the table. On the other, for Punjab Kings, losing is not really an option if they wish to keep their hopes alive. However, given the form and momentum, Chennai Super Kings should win the game.
