It’s the battle of the struggling Kings as Punjab faces off against Chennai. This will be a battle for survival and a battle to stay afloat in the race for the playoffs. With both teams struggling for form and having bouts of inconsistency, this is shaping to be a battle between two sides who really cannot make any more mistakes in their quest for the playoffs. Betting in India may favour the defending champions for this one.
This is a key period for these teams and they will have to start making sure that they perform, and perform fast, or else they will remain nothing but a footnote in this tournament. This should be a great IPL match between two teams that are more or less evenly matched his season.
The Punjab kings have once again slipped into a rut of their own making. After a strong start, they have lost their way courtesy of some very ordinary and pedestrian brand of cricket, with inconsistencies all across their side. The previous game was an example of how things have gone bad in the side, with the batsmen surrendering meekly and the bowlers not putting up much of a fight either. They will have to massively step up their game, starting from the skipper, who has been in a lean run of form. With their heavy hitters not showcasing their abilities with the bat, it is going to be an uphill battle from here on if they have to survive.
Chennai Super Kings
The yellow brigade just about managed to win by the skin of their teeth courtesy of some vintage finishing from MS Dhoni, but cracks still remain in that side that has failed to reach the heights of last season. They have been poor in all departments and their core has been very unreliable to bail them out of pressure situations. Add to that the relative inexperience of the bowlers, it has shaped up into a very long season of mediocrity for the 4-time and current defending champs.
Chennai has the edge over Punjab, winning 15 out of the 26 matches played between the two sides.
With two sides tottering around the lower half of the table, it will be a case of the side who makes the lesser errors to win the game. With that being said, expect Punjab to be slight favourites in this fixture.
