South Africa vs Sri Lanka T20 World Cup, Super12 match no 25
South Africa will face off against Sri Lanka in the 25th Super12 match of the T20 World Cup. Both teams will want to win this game, after one win and one loss. Cricket prediction will be really tough for this fixture. It will be a hard fight between two sides looking to prove a point. Neither team will want to go back empty handed.
After losing a close game against Australia in their opener, South Africa bounced back versus the West Indies and emerged victorious by a thumping eight wickets. In the absence of Quinton De Kock, the team was feeling the pressure to deliver but Aiden Markram stepped up to play a well-paced 26 ball 51 run knock to power a 144 run chase with 10 deliveries to spare. Rassie van der Dussen scored 43 runs in 51 balls and Reeza Hendricks got 39 runs against his name. Should be a closely contested cricket match if they fire once again.
However, it was the bowling that set the Porteas up for the win. Anrich Nortje delivered a top class spell, giving 14 runs and picking a wickets in four overs. Rabada and Keshav Maharaj remained economical and picked a wicket each.
South Africa squad: Temba Bavuma (c), Keshav Maharaj, Quinton de Kock, Bjorn Fortuin, Reeza Hendricks, Heinrich Klaasen, Aiden Markram, David Miller, Wiaan Mulder, Lungi Ngidi, Anrich Nortje, Dwaine Pretorius, Kagiso Rabada, Tabraiz Shamsi, Rassie van der Dussen
After managing past the group stage, the Lankans defeated Bangladesh by five wickets in their first Super 12 clash. However, they slumped against the likes of a sublime Australian attack. Asalanka, Kusal Perera and Bhanuka Rajapaksha got starts against the Kangaroos but the former two couldn’t really convert their 30s into a bigger knock. They finished at 154/6 in the first 20 overs.
With a respectable total on board, the Sri Lankan bowlers, except for Maheesh Theekshana, were hit all over the park by Australian openers David Warner and Aaron Finch. The total was chased with three overs to spare.
Sri Lanka squad: Dasun Shanaka (c), Kusal Perera, Avishka Fernando, Charith Asalanka, Wanindu Hasaranga, Chamika Karunaratne, Maheesh Theekshana, Dhananjaya de Silva, Dinesh Chandimal, Dushmantha Chameera, Bhanuka Rajapaksa, Pathum Nissanka, Akila Dananjaya, Lahiru Kumara, Binura Fernando
South Africa and Sri Lanka have faced each other 16 times in T20Is. The Porteas have won 11 matches while Australia have won on five occasions.
Both teams have lost one game and won one. Their sides have looked fragile and the batting lineups have struggled to get it big. However, when one balances the two sides on scales, South Africa seems to be the one with the advantage.
