The Sunrisers will take on the Punjab Kings in the last game of the group stage, with both the teams out of the reckoning after Bangalore’s victory last night. Both teams will look back on this season as a chance missed, with both teams being constantly plagued by inconsistency and the inability to win games in the critical moments. It should be a great game and the cricket exchange will find it tough to tag a winner.
Both teams will approach this game with a sense of freedom, having nothing at stake. They can play some good live cricket without a chip on their shoulders. They will hope to go out with a bang and close the group stages with a firecracker of a contest.
The Sunrisers had finally snapped their losing run with a thrilling 3-run win over the Mumbai Indians to briefly ignite hopes of an unlikely shot at the playoffs, but now they have clarity that they cannot make it to the final four. They will be proud of the season they have had, considering that they were not really expected to be in this situation at the start of the tournament.
They do have questions to answer in the off-season, but that is for another day. The likes of Umran Malik and Abhishek Sharma have emerged as great contributors, and will definitely be the cornerstone of the team for long
The Kings will definitely look at the tournament and see this as a missed opportunity, especially after the auction that they had, and the quality of players they purchased. They have been wildly inconsistent this season, and never truly looked like capitalizing on such a talented squad. They will look to get better as a team and a unit, and will definitely enjoy the emergence of Arshdeep as an elite bowler in the death overs.
Out of 19 encounters so far, Sunrisers Hyderabad has won 13 while Punjab Kings have won 6.
With both teams having nothing to lose, this will be a dead rubber, although Punjab will be the favourites for this game
