Bhuvneshwar Kumar made history as he became the first Indian pacer to reach the milestone of 150 wickets in the Indian Premier League (IPL) history in Sunrisers Hyderabad’s (SH) win against Punjab Kings (PKS) by seven wickets. Overall, he is the third fast bowler to reach this feat following Dwayne Bravo (174*) and Lasith Malinga (170). Stay tuned for IPL 2022 updates and betting online cricket!
The 32-year-old Bhuvneshwar put in an impressive performance for SRH, taking 3/22 from his four overs and combined with Umran Malik (4/28) to bowl out PBKS for 151. Last season, he played 11 matches and took just six wickets as SRH finished bottom of the table. This season, SRH cruised to the fourth spot in the points table with their fourth consecutive win.
Earlier, Bhuvneshwar has won the Purple Cap in 2016 and 2017, a recognition given to players with the most wickets in a season. He has bowled a total of 1333 dot balls in 514 overs, a record for most dot balls for bowling in the history of IPL. This is 20 more than Sunil Narine who is in the second spot. He is also third on the list of most maidens in IPL history with nine.
Bhuvneshwar, who was not retained by SRH this season but they managed to buy him for ₹4.20 crore, had earned praise from Sunrisers head coach Tom Moody before the match. “Bhuvi is the leader of the attack. He plays a role which is probably the hardest, that is the impact bowler in the powerplay and also the person who shuts down the game at the death,” said Moody.
