England cruises to 4-Wicket win over West Indies in the first T20 international

After a back and forth battle, England was able to defeat the reigning champion West Indies by 4 wickets in their 1 of 3  match of T20 international series played at the Darren Sammy Cricket Stadium, St. Lucia.

Thanks to the England batsman and man of the match Jonny Bairstow for helping the team chase down the target with ease, as he scored a quick fire 68 off 40 balls.

“It was great fun. It was good to get back out and play with a bit of freedom. There are few guys not playing in this series so it’s an opportunity to go out and hopefully carry on from the one-day series. It’s good fun being back behind the stumps, too.”

Meanwhile, Tom Curran and David Willey completed the job as England won the first T20I by 161 for eight and 4 wickets with 7 balls to spare. In addition, it was England captain Eoin Morgan who won the toss and decided to field first.

On the other hand, West Indies posted a respectable total of 160. Thanks to Nicholas Pooran as he hit 58 from 37 balls.

According to West Indies captain Jason Holder: “160 wasn’t a bad score to chase but we didn’t help ourselves in the field. Pooran played well with the bat. He is explosive and very good to watch. I back our lads to bounce back in the next game.”

Moving forward, England has the 1-0 lead of the tournament and the T20 2 of 3 series will begin on Saturday, March 9 – 4:00 AM (GMT +8) at the Warner Park Sporting Complex in Basseterre, Saint Kitts and Nevis.
